Edge motions commit ministers to change

Government's whistleblowing policy is being urgently reviewed.

That's been confirmed by the Cabinet Office after a series of motions, tabled by Onchan MHK Julie Edge, passed with amendments in Tynwald this month.

They commit ministers to come forward in the next year with a new statutory framework, which encourages raising public interest concerns.

It must also include protections and support for those who speak out, as well as monitoring and penalties for non-compliance.

In the meantime, the Tynwald Auditor General is to provide independent oversight of whistleblowing processes, including making sure concerns are investigated.
