Road to close for 'very large' elm tree to be felled

There will be a closure on part of the TT course for up to three days this week to allow a 'very large' tree to be felled.

A section of the A3 from the entrance of Bishopscourt Glen to the northern entrance of Orrisdale Road will close from today (27 October) to Wednesday between 9.30am and 3.30pm.

The tree has Dutch Elm Disease, is dead, and is considered to be at risk of falling into the highway if it's not dealt with.

The work will be carried out by an arborist on behalf of the householder who owns it.  

The Department of Infrastructure says, given the size and location of the tree, it will be necessary to shut the road to all vehicular and pedestrian traffic to safely fell it in stages.

While the closures are in place there will be no access to Orrisdale from its junction with Bollyn Road for southbound traffic (i.e. in the direction of the village of Kirk Michael).

In the event of poor weather the work may be postponed until Thursday, 30 October when the DOI says a provisional road closure has been authorised.
