'Sad goodbye' as virus cuts short promising season on the Calf

Resident ornithologist admits staying wouldn't be fair on support workers

A long-serving warden on the Calf of Man says he is frustrated after the coronavirus threat led to the closure of the island's observatory.

 

Aron Sapsford and two fellow wardens, were just 18 days into a six-month season before the decision was made to have them recalled.

 

Mr Sapsford's role involves monitoring wildlife, namely the ringing of birds, and he's been the Calf's ornithological warden since the 80s.

 

Despite his frustrations, he says the decision is understandable:
