Security tight for opening ceremony

The fourth Commonwealth Youth Games will be opened by His Royal Highness Prince Edward, the Earl of Wessex, at the revamped Bowl in Douglas this evening (Thursday).

The colourful ceremony will feature over 225 dancers, musicians and actors and will be streamed live worldwide by the BBC.

The involvement of a member of the royal family has led to a requirement for tighter security.

Inspector Richard Power says a lot of work has gone into making sure everything runs safely (listen to audio file below):

The opening ceremony starts at 7.15pm and there will be full, live coverage on Manx Radio, for two hours from 7pm.

The coverage will also be available on the Games Station by Manx Radio, on the AM 1368 frequency, online at manxradio.com and on two special FM frequencies.

The FM frequencies are 100.6 for the listeners at the National Sports Centre, and 87.9 for people tuned in anywhere in Douglas.

The Games Station will broadcast from 9am to 9pm tomorrow (Friday), and from 8.30am to 9pm on Saturday and Sunday.

In addition the coverage will be on Manx Radio's normal FM frequencies from 10.30am to 6pm on Saturday.
