'Significant problem' with Merseyside criminals exploiting young

Teenagers being forced into drugs trade

Criminals in Merseyside are exploiting children on the Isle of Man by manipulating them into the drugs trade. 

Police here say it's a 'significant problem' and one of the biggest issues the Manx force is facing.

In the last year police on the Isle of Man have seized one million pounds of illegal drugs. 

There's now growing concern about the age profile of those involved in the trade:

In the last year 28 teenagers were dealt with for drug trafficking offences – that's compared to just one in 2011.

Officers arrested one offender, who'd been in possession of the proceeds of drug trafficking, just three hours after he'd bought a watch for £20,000 from a local jeweller.

Chief Constable Gary Roberts says it's a 'societal issue' and one which needs a joined up approach:
