Silverline experiences busy time

50,000 calls expected in December

The chief executive of a support line charity for older people says demand for their services has "grown and grown" since it was piloted in the Isle of Man.

Silverline was the brainchild of well-known TV campaigner Esther Rantzen, after she lost her husband.

Since it's inception in 2012 the charity has fielded over 1.6 million calls.

Sophie Andrews says they've experienced steady growth throughout each year, and Christmas is always a particularly busy times with at least 50,000 calls expected in December:
