Sky lantern and helium balloon ban edges closer

Bill has third reading in House of Keys

A bill banning sky lanterns and helium balloons has edged closer to becoming law.

It's gone to Legislative Council and is expecting its third reading on the 2 March to be signed in Tynwald and seek Royal Assent.

The sale of sky lanterns was first made illegal on the Island in 2015.

The bill's promoter, Garff MHK Martyn Perkins, says the legislation has the backing of environmental groups, the farming community and emergency services.
