Speaker probes government's commitment to 'key' housing laws

Landlords Registration Bill passed in 2021 but isn't in effect

The Speaker of the House of Keys is raising concerns over government's commitment to implement 'key' legislation to protect those who rent their homes.

The Landlords Registration Bill would force all private landlords and properties to comply with certain standards.

The bill was passed in Tynwald in 2021, but is yet to be brought into force.

The Chair of the Housing and Communities Board Chris Thomas insists there is 'full commitment' to begin specifying minimum standards required to progress the laws:
