Mountain Road closed
As predicted stormy weather is causing problems on the Island again today.
The Mountain Road closed at 6am due to the high winds and heavy rain sweeping across the Island and there have already been several fallen trees on Island roads this morning. DOI teams have been out since the early hours dealing with incidents where roads are blocked.
This mornings 8.45am sailing to Heysham has been cancelled due to the high seas, so there will be no return sailing at 2.15pm. Currently, the Steam Packet hope this evening's sailing can leave as scheduled.
Vulnerable seafront areas are being closed to traffic from 10.30am. These include:
Douglas Promenade, from Greensills Corner to Port Jack, Bay-ny-Carrickey/Shore Road, Rushen, Douglas Street, Castletown, Castletown Promenade, Fenella Beach/Castle Causeway, Peel, Laxey Promenade from Shore Road to Tent Road and Ramsey Promenade
Motorists are advised to take extra care on roads with large amouts of standing water possible pretty much anywhere and rain is likely to continue for several hours.
Conditions are expected to improve this afternoon.
