17-year-old admits possessing prohibited article in public
The Isle of Man’s deputy high bailiff has urged a teenager from Ramsey to stop carrying a weapon for self-defence.
Ryan James Moore, from Seamount Road, appeared at Douglas Courthouse where he admitted possessing a prohibited article and the Class B drug cannabis.
The 17-year-old was joined in the dock by a 16-year-old co-defendant who can’t be named for legal reasons; he also pleaded guilty to both offences.
The court was told police had spotted the duo on Gardeners Lane in the 'very early hours' of 25 October.
Officers could smell cannabis and detained them for a drug search; the teenagers then took them to a bush where they'd discarded cannabis with a street value of £32.
Two lock-knives were also recovered which the teens said were for 'their own protection'.
Moore's advocate told the court his client wished to apologise adding: "It’s two very foolish offences.”
Fining Moore £730, and ordering him to pay prosecution costs of £125, Deputy High Bailiff Rachael Braidwood told him: "Please do not carry knives."
The 16-year-old will be sentenced by a juvenile court.
