Various LG Acts give powers to help authorities function
It's up to local authorities to decide whether they should use their powers to tender for commercial contracts - that's according to Infrastructure Minister Ray Harmer.
Speaking in the House of Keys this morning (28 Mar) he says authorities must determine if it's appropriate after considering the details of separate tenders.

Mr Harmer says various Local Government Acts give general powers to authorities to do anything which helps them function and provide services.
The minister, however, stressed he could only speak in general terms:
