Three 'legal highs' to be banned in IoM

The Isle of Man will be following the British government's moves to ban potentially lethal "legal highs".

Three types, GBL, which is an industrial cleaner, BZP, originally developed as a cattle worming tablet and also known as herbal esctasy and a cannabis substitute called spice are all set to be outlawed by the end of the year, subject to parliamentary approval.

GBL and BZP have been linked to the deaths of a number of people in the UK and further afield, particularly when mixed with alcohol.

Margaret O'Reilly of the Island's Drug and Alcohol Strategy says just because these substances are legal doesn't make them safe, far from it in fact.
