Tighter controls planned for campsite

Tynwald will be asked to revise bye-laws governing the campsite at Sulby Claddagh later this month.

When the court sits a week tomorrow (Tuesday), the Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture will seek members' approval for amendments to local regulations.

However, despite the problems with anti-social behaviour reported there in recent years, none of the new rules will tackle that issue.

Instead, the proposed changes relate to when camping should be allowed at the site.

Under the new regulations camping would no longer be possible between midnight and 6am, from October 1 to April 30, without special permission from the department.

And, between May and September, anyone camping there would need a valid permit.

The new rules would also restrict camping to a fortnight at a time, although there is some good news for motorsports fans.

The department says during TT and the MGP campers would be allowed to stay for an extended period, from the Thursday before the festivals until the Tuesday after.
