There was little time for the Island to prepare for the UK's new 12-sided pound coin, according to the Treasury Minister.
Alf Cannan says changes to the English specie were a well kept secret, and despite not following suit for now, Treasury may consider adopting the new shape of pound in future.
Newly designed Manx coins were launched this week, ranging from 5 pence to, for the first time, a unique £5 coin.
Mr Cannan says it was high time to update the Island's currency, but adapting to the 12-sided design from across the water wasn't an option for the time being:
