Treasury to appeal employment tribunal outcome

Martyn Perkins and Geoffrey Boot were awarded nearly £34K each

The Isle of Man Treasury will appeal a recent Employment and Equality Tribunal judgement which saw two former MHKs awarded nearly £34,000 each.

Martyn Perkins and Geoffrey Boot told the tribunal they were discriminated against by the Treasury because of their age, after losing their seats in the 2021 general election.

However, following legal advice, the Treasury says the appeal is justified where there are 'perceived substantial legal principles in question', and where 'significant expenditure of public funds is involved'.

The cost of the appeal isn't yet known, but government believe those incurred are 'proportionate in these circumstances'.
