Tree felling at Foxdale

A strip of plantation in Foxdale on the Ballamodha Road is to be cleared later this year for tree felling, the Department of Transport has announced.

The strip, to the east of the A3 near the junction of the A36 at South Barrule, will be cleared as it’s becoming unstable.

Given the proximity of the trees to the road and high tension power cables, it’s felt to be the only solution.

It is then planned to leave the site bare for a period in the hope it will become a valuable habitat and revert to heathland.

Similar habitats in the vicinity are known to be popular with hunting hen harriers and short-eared owls and may attract lizards, amongst other species.
