Two local men remanded in custody today

A 35 year old Ballasalla man accused of causing grievous bodily harm has been refused bail.

David Mitchell of Quines Close was arrested following an early morning disturbance on the Clagh Vane housing estate nine days ago.

He appeared in court this morning and was remanded in custody until June the 24th.

He is also charged with affray and possessing an offensive weapon.

The man he is accused of wounding, Alex Messenger, remains in a UK hospital with head and facial injuries.

Meanwhile a Port Erin man, arrested following a cannabis seizure last week, has been remanded in custody.

An estimated £110,000 worth of the drug was seized from a boat shortly after it arrived at Port St Mary harbour last Thursday night.

Forty-five year-old Lee Kevin Watterson of Gleneagles Apartments denies production of cannabis and possession with intent to supply.

He was today remanded and will appear in court again on June the 24th.

A 24 year-old Douglas man has already admitted the same offences, along with a separate charge of possessing cannabis.
