Unsung heroes centre stage today

Chief Constable to host awards ceremony

Unsung heroes in the Island will be honoured today (Wed).

The Chief Constable's Annual Awards Ceremony will take place this afternoon in the presence Lieutenant Governor, Sir Richard Gozney, and his wife, Lady Diana Gozney.

A number of police officers and ordinary members of the public who saved lives, displayed extraordinary courage, and exhibited 'quick thinking' are up for awards.

The Chief Constable's Certificate of Merit will go to Charmain Corcoran for calm quick thinking, which led to the arrest of an offender.

Detective Constable Emily Perkins is given an award for compassion and investigative skills in dealing with a rape.

Harriet Phillips, Alison Kennish and Margaret Marley will receive the Chief Constable's Commendation for acting swiftly, leading to saving a life.

Sergeant Darren Gorry, Constable Breeshey Craine and Miss Aimee Ford receive the same award for their actions at the scene of a fatal traffic collision.

The Dr Phillip Christian Trophy to an Unsung Hero goes to Mr Stephen Hampson, and Castletown Commissioners pick up the Community Partnership Initiative Award.

The Ellan Vannin Fuels Police Youth Scheme Trophy goes to Miss Megan Wright - whilst Constable Darren Loader wins the award for community police officer of the year.

This year's ceremony takes place at 1.15pm in the Gaiety Theatre, Douglas.
