Value of burglary spate items revealed

Total tops £160,000

The government has given a figure for the value of property taken, and the precise number of burglaries that were carried out in January and February.

Questioned by former commandant of the Special Constabulary and an MHK who takes a keen interest in policing matters, John Houghton, Home Affairs Minister Juan Watterson said there had been 68 burglaries.

That is some way above the number which had been offered by the authorities at the time.

For the first time a total value for the losses has been given.

Mr Watterson says the total cost of items taken was £162,820.

Mr Houghton was offered the chance to talk over the issues arising with the minister or to chat to the chief constable.
