Victim Support 'busy' as reported sexual offences increase by 18%

Charity's caseload increases as general crime rates fall on the Island

A Manx charity supporting victims of sexual offences says its seen its workload increase over the past year, as cases increased by 18 per cent.

That's against a backdrop of an overall decline in crime on the Isle of Man.

This time last year Victim Support was offering help to 61 people, now that number stands at 104.

So far in 2022 its had 24 new referrals for victims of sexual assault.

The charity's manager, Paula Gelling, says the increase may not be down to more offences occurring than in previous years - but more awareness:
