Visitor spending boosted by TT

Visitors to the Isle of Man spent almost a hundred million pounds last year, according to government research.

The Department of Economic Development says its annual Isle of Man Passenger Survey for 2011 shows visitor spending stood at £98 million, up 8.7% on 2010’s figure.

The survey also found almost 300,000 travellers arrived here last year, a 4.2% rise on the previous year.

The department says the Commonwealth Youth Games and the TT Mountain Course Centenary helped the statistics, along with other initiatives including special events, marketing, and investment in private sector accommodation.
