Warning after reports of tradespeople cold-calling Island homes

'Always ask for identification'

Police have issued a warning following reports of tradespeople calling at homes on the Island offering work.

Officers say some traders from the UK or Ireland may not have authority to work here, and some may be attempting to obtain money through unlawful or misleading practices.

The constabulary says traders who engage in these activities are non-residents who stay only briefly, hoping to avoid detection.

People are being asked to remain vigilant in protecting their homes and properties and to look after neighbours who may be vulnerable to unexpected approaches.

The Isle of Man Constabulary has shared the following advice:

• Always ask for identification and verify who you are speaking to.
• Do not allow anyone into your home if they arrive without an appointment.

• Do not deal with traders who call at your house offering work.

• Do not be pressured into agreeing to unnecessary work.

• Do not pay large amounts of cash up front.
