'We could vaccinate everyone from the age of 40 upwards before Christmas'

Walk-in booster clinics to offer 3,000 extra jabs

Walk-in clinics for Covid-19 booster vaccines will take place this weekend, as part of a pre-Christmas push to get as many people triple-jabbed as possible.

Government is opening up the Chester Street vaccination hub between Saturday and Christmas Eve to people aged 40 and over and those in at-risk groups.

Appointments aren't needed, and those with slots booked for a later date can turn up regardless.

On the day, booked appointments will take priority though, and jabs will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis.

Health and Social Care Minister Lawrie Hooper says the expansion of the rollout is to 'get ahead of an expected surge in Omicron cases and avoid the extra demand this will place on our health and other essential services.'

It's hoped, Mr Hooper says, that everyone from the age of 40 upwards can get their booster vaccine before Christmas, if people take up the offer.

Kathryn Magson, the Interim Chief Executive of DHSC, says the expanded rollout is extra pressure on an already-stressed service, but boosters must be prioritised:

The walk-in clinic times:

Saturday 18 December - 9.30am - 1pm
Monday 20 December – 8:30am – 15:45pm
Tuesday 21 December – 8:30am – 15:45pm
Wednesday 22 December – 8:45am – 15:15pm
Thursday 23 December - 8:45am - 11:15am
Friday 24 December (Christmas Eve) – 8:45am - 11:15am

More than 30,000 Covid-19 booster jabs have been administered on the Isle of Man, so far.

It means more than 64 per cent of the eligible population has received an additional vaccine dose.
