Weapons seizures on the rise in 2018

IOM Constabulary releases figures in FOI

More weapons have been seized by the Isle of Man Constabulary in 2018 than in any of the last five years.

Figures released via a Freedom of Information request show 27 weapons have been taken this year so far, including knives (13), blunt instruments (11) and firearms (3).

It's more than double the amount of weapons seized by police last year and three times more than in 2013.

The force has also provided a breakdown of the types of weapon taken since 2013, which include a bayonet, a machete, a knuckle duster and even a sharpened toothbrush.

A spokesperson for the Constabulary says it's happy the number is relatively low, but is concerned about ease of ordering weapons online.
