Wildlife park chosen for special breeding programme

Two silvery gibbons hoped to mate after fears of extinction

Curraghs Wildlife Park is hoping to play a role in the preserving an endangered species with the announcement of a new breeding programme.

Two silvery gibbons will be housed at the Ballaugh park where it's hoped the pair will mate.

There were fears the animal would become extinct this decade because of habitat destruction and the illegal pet trade.

The park will be closed for one day on Friday, December 4th, whilst the silvery gibbons' new home is built - opening as usual again on Saturday December 5th.
