Woman fined for speeding outside school

Forty-two-year-old caught doing 35mph in 20pmh zone

A court's heard an educational support worker was caught speeding outside a primary school as parents dropped their children off.

Forty-two-year-old Ellan Rachael Kneen of Douglas Road in Kirk Michael admitted speeding via a coroner’s admission at a hearing before magistrates at Douglas courthouse.

Prosecutor Rebecca Cubbon told the court police were carrying out speed checks with laser detection equipment in St John's on 22 January.

Just before 8.45am, they spotted her Ford Transit van and clocked her doing 35mph outside the Bunscooil Ghaelgagh.

Magistrates heard the school has signs imposing a temporary 20mph limit in the mornings and afternoons as pupils arrive and leave.

Kneen told the court she was a safe driver who drives a minibus for the school she works at.

But she added she'd been extremely stressed that morning because she was on her way to visit her mother in hospital.

Magistrates fined her £150, ordered her to pay £50 towards prosecution costs and put three points on her licence.
