Women lead week of pupil inspiration

Inspiring Women Week marked in Island

Women who have succeeded in the workplace are helping to inspire Island school children to achieve their potential this week.

Inspiring Women Week, which connects women from a variety of workplaces with local schools, starts today (Monday).

Year nine students will hear women describe their real-life experiences at work, from the board room to the shop floor.

It's hoped the initiative will inspire youngsters to consider careers they hadn't thought about before.

Inspiring Women Week is an offshoot of Inspiring the Future - a UK campaign adopted by the Isle of Man last year.

Primary and secondary schools will be holding events, with this  year's highlight a speed-dating style event at Ramsey Grammar School.

On Wednesday women from different fields of work will talk to students about what they do, why they enjoy their jobs, the rewards, and any barriers they've had to overcome.

It's hoped boys and girls will gain a unique insight into the world of work which may influence exam subject options - and potentially a career choice having met someone who has inspired them.
