Vessel called for help in early hours of Saturday morning

A yacht had to be towed into Douglas after its engine overheated 26 miles short of its destination.

The vessel left the UK on Friday evening for the Manx capital when it ran into difficulty south east of Douglas shortly after 3.30am yesterday.

After the wind dropped, the crew turned to the engine for power, but it failed leaving them stricken.

After ensuring all three people on board were safe, the lifeboat crew brought the yacht to Battery Pier just before 9am where Douglas Coastguard was waiting to help further.
