Cummins pipped for NW 200 triumph

Ramsey's Conor Cummins got on the podium at Saturday’s North West 200 international road races in Northern Ireland.

But the Manxman’s hopes for a win at the event didn’t materialise.

He was pipped for victory by John McGuinness in the opening race of the day – the Superbike 1 race – with Alastair Seeley in third.

After winning by .217 of a second, McGuinness described the victory as one of his ‘best ever wins’ and praised Cummins for an excellent start.

And there was disappointment for Cummins later on as he dropped out of the Superstock race which he had started in pole position.

Elsewhere, Dan Kneen fared the best of the other locals with Gavin Hunt and Johnny Barton also in action.

There was also disappointment for Castletown's Chris Palmer who started from third on the grid in the 125cc event but, again, dropped out.
