Difficult day for Vagabonds

Rugby results for Saturday, 21 April

Vagabonds mauled at Winnington Park
On the back of a long season, a trip to the undefeated league leaders was always going to be challenging and so it was today as Vagabonds went down 128-0 away from home.

The only positive from the result is that they don’t have to face Winnington Park again this season. The curtain falls for Vagabonds next Saturday when they take on Wigan at Ballafletcher in their final game of the season in South Lancs/Cheshire Division 2.

Douglas defeated in season finale
Douglas brought their first North One West campaign to a close with a 34-10 away defeat at Warrington and a ninth place finish.

A closer inspection of the table however shows Douglas would have finished fourth with just two more wins and they picked up five losing bonus points which means that they are very close indeed to challenging for promotion. Paceman Nick Brooker picked up the only Douglas try today with Will Cain adding a conversion and a penalty.

Ramsey defence denies Eagle
A gritty defensive performance saw Ramsey pick up a bonus point win at the Mooragh Park beating Eagle 31-10 in Lancs/Cheshire 3.

Dan Bonwick and Henry Swithinbank both crossed for first half tries with Scott Kneale converting one for a 12-0 lead. Kieran Thomas pulled one back for Eagle leaving the game balanced 12-5 at the break. Bonwick bagged his second after the interval and Matty Meechan added another to secure the bonus point. Ben Mercer picked up a consolation for Eagle but it was Ramsey who had the final say with a penalty try after a high tackle prevent Bonwick from completing his hat trick.

Emerging Nomads claim Bodycraft Cup
Nomads claimed the bragging rights in the final Southern derby of the season beating Castletown 41-27 in what was also a round of the Shimmin Wilson Manx Shield.

Jake Harding ran in four tries for Nomads with supporting tries from Orry Watterson, John Ali and Josh Smith. Ari Ludford-Brooks added three conversions. For Castletown Morgan Armstrong-Paton scored two, with tries also from James Jones, Kunal Patel and Alex Gibson plus one conversion from Harry Dawson.
