Football: Chris Bass jnr. named caretaker national team boss

Decorated player will take charge for Island Games in Orkney

Chris Bass jnr. has taken up the position of caretaker manager of the Isle of Man men's national football team.

The Isle of Man FA says the decorated St George's player will be in post up to and including this year's Island Games in Orkney from 12-18 July with the position to then be reviewed in the summer.

He replaces Blane Slattery who stood down as the Isle of Man men's team manager last week due to work commitments.

After taking on the role, Bass jnr. said: "I am both honoured and excited to be given the opportunity to take on the role as caretaker manager for the Isle of Man for the upcoming Island Games in Orkney Island this summer. 

"I look forward to building on the strong foundations established by Blane and his coaching team. 

"We are eager to get going and work with the talented young squad and as ever, the target will be to win a gold medal."

Having first represented the Manx flag in the sport in 2003, Bass jnr. is the Island's most capped current men's player with over 85 competitive appearances.

He will take charge of his first training session tomorrow (29 January).
