Gerrard hoping for Worlds nod

After an excellent sixth place at the Inter-Counties Cross Country Championships on Saturday, athlete Keith Gerrard is hopeful he will be selected for his first senior international race at the forthcoming World Championships.

With the first three finishers automatically selected, Gerrard will find out tomorrow if he will be included in the six-man Great Britain and Northern Ireland team which heads to Jordan for the championships on Sunday, March 29th.

Having finished only five seconds outside the bronze medal position and with no other outstanding athletes being pre-selected Gerrard is confident that he will be on the plane to Amman.

Gerrard and Manx Cross Country Champion Kevin Loundes, who was making his first appearance at the Inter-Counties, were representing Lancashire in the televised event, which boasts the highest quality field of the British domestic calendar.

Loundes completed his debut run in the top half of the field, finishing 131st place out of 292 finishers

The Lancashire squad took silver in the team competition.
