MGP newcomers set for Mountain Course debut

 

After months, in some cases years of preparation, the big day is finally here for scores of road racers.

The first session for Manx Grand Prix newcomers will be held during this evening's practice (16 August) as the Festival of Motorcycling 2014 gets under way.

Newcomer numbers have doubled from 40 to 80 as the event gains recognition and popularity in only its second year.

Competitors from the Isle of Man, the rest of the British Isles, continental Europe, the USA and Australia are all set to ride the Mountain Course on closed roads for the first time.

Weather permitting, roads will close at 5pm and re open no later than 9pm.

A speed controlled lap for newcomers will get tonight's first practice session underway, before competitors in MGP and Classic TT classes take to the track. 

Lining up with the newcomers will be Frenchman Lancelot Unissart, who's visited before, but is yet to tackle the circuit himself:
