Vagabonds and Douglas had mixed fortunes in their latest matches in the South Lancashire and Cheshire League.
Vagas suffered a second successive home defeat, this time losing 45-10 to mid-table Ormskirk.
It was their twelfth defeat in 17 matches and with three games to go they remain uncomfortably near the bottom of Division One.
Douglas, on the other hand, won away from home for the second game in a row.
The 29-20 success at Sefton meant the Manx team held on to sixth place in the table and are now a single point behind the Merseysiders, who are still fifth.
With three games left Douglas are heading for a reasonable finish in the top half of the table.
