Champion wins one race, retires from the other
It was a mixed weekend for Jonathan Rea at the latest round of the World Superbike championship.
The Castletown resident and defending champion won the first race at Laguna Seca, California, finishing ahead of Tom Sykes to extend his lead at the top of the standings.
But Sykes, Rea's Kawasaki team mate, then took advantage of the Northern Irishman's retirement on lap five of the second race to claw back a large chunk of the gap between them.
Rea, who dropped out because of a technical issue, leads Sykes by 46 points in the standings.
