Peel keep alive double hopes

Newly crowned Sure Mobile Combination One champions Peel kept alive their hopes of a league and cup double by progressing to the JCK Junior Cup semi-finals on Saturday.

The westerners secured their place against a spirited Old Boys side 3-0, thanks to goals from Gary Smith, Ryan Holdaway and Chris Looney.

They’ll now host Laxey in Friday evening’s semi-final after the Miners ended the brave challenge of Combination Two side Marown, also with a 3-0 home win, courtesy of goals from Jamie Delaney, Lee Price and Jon Corrin.

It was also 3-0 at Noble’s Park but in favour of the visitors as St Mary's produced a super second half showing against Corinthians.

After a goalless first half, Josh Thomas (two) and Mark Gorman booked the Saints' place in the last four where they’ll visit Rushen, who turned on the style in their quarter-final at Ayre with a 6-2 win.

After a close first half, the southerners hit four in the second period.

Patrick Martin led the way with a hat-trick and there were also goals for Kyle Lunn, the experienced Mark Haywood and Andrew Bunce.
