Rider dies after incident in North West 200 qualifying session

Organisers issue statement 

A rider has died following an incident during today's North West 200 qualifying session, organisers of the event have confirmed.

The incident occurred at Station Corner during this morning's Superbike qualifying session with the session immediately red-flagged.

Emergency services attended the scene, however the rider succumbed to their injuries.

Officials add the rider's family has given approval for the event to continue but have requested that the rider not be named at this time.

Organisers, the Coleraine and District Motor Club is offering its 'sincere condolences' to the family and team at this time.

"A competitor at the 2026 Briggs Equipment North West 200 has died following an incident at Station corner on the NW200 course during this morning’s Superbike qualifying session.

"The session was immediately red flagged and emergency services attended the scene but unfortunately the rider succumbed to his injuries.

"The family have given their approval for the event to continue but have requested that the rider not be named at this time.

"Coleraine and District Motor Club, the organisers of the races, offer our sincere condolences to the family and team."

Following the incident, the North West 200 has also announced changes to this evening's schedule which will see the four previously planned races replaced with further qualifying sessions.
 
Roads around the Triangle Circuit will shut shortly at 4.45pm before Superbike Qualifying between 5.45pm and 6.15pm.
 
After that will be Supertwin/Sportbike Qualifying from 6.35pm to 7.05pm before Superstock Qualifying between 7.25pm and 7.55pm.
 
The final session - Supersport Qualifying - will be held from 8.15pm to 8.45pm.
