Shooting: Federation 'in shock' over 2029 Island Games omission

It's one of four disciplines which won't feature in five years time

The Isle of Man Target Shooting Federation says there's been 'widespread shock' the sport has not been included for the 2029 Island Games on the Isle of Man.

It's one of four disciplines which will miss out in five years time alongside bowls, judo and sailing.

Recently Minister for Education, Sport & Culture Daphne Caine said she sympathised with those not included but says selection criteria was made clear.

Speaking on behalf of the federation, Nathan Holden believes shooting met most, if not all of the criteria required to be chosen for the event:

The 14 sports for the games in five years time were confirmed in late May this year:

• Archery
• Athletics
• Badminton
• Basketball
• Cycling
• Football
• Golf
• Gymnastics
• Squash
• Swimming
• Table Tennis
• Tennis
• Triathlon
• Volleyball

So far, shooting has appeared in every Island Games since the inaugural event on the Isle of Man in 1985.

Next year in Orkney will be the first time it won't have featured in any format - it's not yet confirmed whether it'll feature at the 2027 games in the Faroe Islands.
