Vagabonds maintain Manx Shield challenge

Vagabonds B kept their 100 per cent record in the Shimmin Wilson Manx Shield with a 33-17 win over Ramsey B.

Vagas led 19-7 at half-time thanks to a try from Mark Allix and a brace from Tom Gascoyne, plus two conversions from Ryan Windel.

Ramsey hit back with a Danny Bonwick try and conversion.

In the second half, an Aaron Curphey try, converted by Bonwick, brought Ramsey to within five points, but two tries from Ekong Bell, both converted by Michael Oates, sealed the game.

Curphey bagged his second of the afternoon right at the death but it was little more than a consolation try.

Elsewhere in the Shield, Castletown clung on to beat Douglas B 13-12.

Tries from Jim Green and Nick Kieswetter, plus a penalty from Sam Peel, gave Town the lead.

Douglas hit back with tries from Andy Vernon-Browne and Gwyn Davies, plus a conversion from Mark Shortland, but it wasn’t enough to take the spoils.

Southern Nomads thrashed their second team Emerging Nomads 81-0 at King Williams College.

Harry Brereton led the way for Nomads with four tries, Rob Craine bagged two and there were individual scores from Steve McHugh, Ian Hargreaves, Jack Collins, Neil Collister, Alex Samuels, Tom Davies and Alistair Landels who also kicked eight conversions.
