Valkyrs A crowned champions after Vikings A fall short

Weekend hockey round-up

Vikings A missed out on the PwC Women's Premier League title for the first time in more than a decade, despite a 3-0 win over Ramsey A.

They needed to win by at least four clear goals to leapfrog leaders Valkyrs A on the final day of the domestic campaign.

Captain Kim Carney netted twice for the Douglas side, with the division's highest scorer Kirsty Cooper also on target.

But the northerners did enough to frustrate Vikings and hand the league trophy to Valkyrs A - who lift the title on goal difference.

In the day's other hockey action, Vikings B were condemned to relegation from the PwC Men's Premier League after a 4-1 defeat to Valkyrs A.

Castletown A - who were also invovled in the fight for survival - suffered a 6-0 loss at the hands of Ramsey A, but again goal difference came to their aid.

This season's PwC Women's Division One winners are Saracens A, who only required a point from their match against Harlequins A to seal promotion.

A Helena Allen hat-trick helped them to a comfortable 9-0 victory, meaning they'll be playing top flight hockey next term.

There was also cause for celebration for Castletown B in PwC Men's Division Two, who won the league courtesy of a 5-0 walkover versus Valkyrs C.
