Conister Rock listen again: Ned Kennaugh

Christy was joined on the Conister Rock today by Ned Kennaugh.

Born into the 13th generation of farmers, miners and fishermen on the side of South Barrule, Ned is perhaps the epitomy of the phrase ‘Manx as the hills’. He talked about the very basic and isolated childhood he had but how he and his family never lacked; about the skills he learned from others and how he then dedicated his life to passing on his own skills to children today; about what it meant to work with or on the land all his life and how connected he felt to it.

He also talked about his much loved and much missed brother, John Kennaugh - what their life was like growing up together and how Ned has felt something of a duty to continue his brother's work since he passed away suddenly a few years ago.

And, of course, he shared pieces of music that meant something to him - from Andre Rieu to Abba, his choices were varied and surprising and each had a wonderful story to go with it.
