Women Today listen again: Gary Thompson on Conister Rocks

Beth's guest on the Conister Rock sharing memories and music this week, was Gary Thompson MBE BEM, well known to many as the Clerk of the TT course.

In a programme recorded just before the start of this year's TT festival, Gary told us what it was like growing up as the eldest of three brothers. He also recalled the first time his Dad took them to Boston Speedway - ensuring an enduring love of motorsport - and how he excelled at one particular school sports day.

Gary had a long career in the army, and saw active service in the Falklands War, the Gulf War and in Bosnia.  It was after an Operational Tour in Bosnia in 1996 that he was awarded the MBE.

He also wrote the Security Paper for the Sierra Leone Ministry of Defence, put in place a Soldiers ID card system, and bought all the materials to
rebuild an orphanage located in a little village in the country.

So much to talk about before we even touched on the TT!

Gary's music choices will no doubt surprise a few people, he definitely has a softer romantic side...

To hear the programme again you can click here for the next seven days, and there's no Women Today next week, we will be back on Monday June 11th.
