Skelly allocates DED political remits

Economic Development Minister Laurence Skelly

Responsibilities shared among new members

The Economic Development Minister Laurence Skelly has carved-up his department's workload among its political members.

Membership of government departments and boards was announced last week by Chief Minister Howard Quayle.

Now, ministers are allocating specific areas of responsibility.

Four newly-elected MHKs will work under Mr Skelly, along with MLC Tim Crookall.

There's a substantial remit for Rob Callister, who takes on responsibility for tourism and motorsport, the Villa-Gaiety complex, plus the retail, hospitality and construction sectors.

Daphne Caine will oversee e-business, the biomedical sector and the creative industries, while aerospace, manufacturing, business development, clean tech, mining and properties are under Lawrie Hooper's eye.

Looking after financial services, the space sector, the aircraft and ship registries and high net worth individuals are among areas Martyn Perkins will oversee.

Tim Crookall's remit covers employment and skills including work permits.

Minister Skelly said he's confident the DED's new members will offer fresh perspectives on the Island's economic challenges and make a positive contribution.
