Appeal to decide if advocate can give evidence to tribunal

First Deemster to hear arguments at High Court today

An appeal to decide whether an advocate can give evidence to an employment tribunal will be heard today (6 October).

The Department of Health and Social Care has appealed against the tribunal's decision to call Anna Heeley of the Attorney General's Chambers as a witness.

The tribunal is looking into the disclosure process during a hearing earlier this year involving the Island's former medical director Dr Rosalind Ranson.

The department argues asking Ms Heeley to speak about the disclosure of documents would breach legal privilege.

Further evidence was sought by the tribunal following concerns over how documents were released during the proceedings, and an allegation some items had been concocted.

The appeal will be heard by First Deemster Andrew Corlett and is due to get underway at 10am.
