'Bizarre' biting incident leaves Colby man with suspended sentence

Magistrates tell 23-year-old 'We don't expect to see you again'

A Colby man has been told he ‘came close’ to being sent to prison after biting a woman’s breast in a ‘bizarre’ incident.

Kane Andrew Damien Bibby, of Ballakillowey Road, was sentenced at Douglas Courthouse after admitting assault causing actual bodily harm.

On 25 June last year the 23-year-old was offered assistance by an old school friend, who lived in Port St Mary, after she spotted him drunk and in distress, in the street, in the early hours.

However, once inside, Bibby was said to become ‘over amorous’ and began to make ‘unwanted advances’ towards her; when she tried to restrain him he bit her on the chest and punched her in the head.

The prosecutor told the court the circumstances of the offending had been ‘bizarre’.

In his basis of plea Bibby said he accepted, that with hindsight, it was ‘excessive self-defence’.

Imposing an 18-month custodial sentence which has been suspended for 18 months, and a suspended sentence supervision order, Magistrates told Bibby: “You’ve come close to going to prison.”

Ordering him to pay £300 in prosecution costs, and £300 in compensation, they added: “We’ll wish you well and don’t expect to see you in court again.”
