BUDGET: New funds created to help government meet Our Island Plan targets

Intended to help deliver 'secure, sustainable and vibrant' environment

Three new internal funds have been created to help government meet priorities outlined in the Our Island Plan.

The five year vision document - which Tynwald approved earlier this month - sets out plans to create a secure, sustainable and vibrant environment.

  • £25 million pounds has been allocated for a Climate Change Fund which will be established to help the Island move towards its target of reaching net-zero emissions by 2050.
  • £2 million pounds is heading towards a Project Development Fund which will help government departments explore initial feasibility and development work associated with capital projects.
  • Another £2 million pounds will support the work of the newly created Housing and Communities Board.

The funds were revealed in the 2022 Budget which was delivered by the Treasury Minister in Tynwald today.

Existing funds - including those focussing on health and care transformation, medical indemnity, digital strategy and agriculture and forestry – will see investment aimed at maintaining services and promoting economic development.
