CWG: Historic Commonwealth Games for Manx women

Boost in number of female cyclists

Manx athletes say they’re hopeful that this year’s Commonwealth Games will inspire more women to take part in future.

It’s been an historic event for Team Isle of Man in Birmingham. 

Jade Burden became the first ever female to represent the Island in boxing while Kim Dean also made history as the first Para Powerlifter. 

The number of female cyclists representing Team Isle of Man at the Games is also growing. 

Only two women competed at the 2018 competition in Australia – five have been selected for the cycling team this year. 

Becky Storrie, Amelia Sharpe, Jessie Carridge, Lizzie Holden and Anna Christian are taking part in the Road Race from 8am today. 

Lizzie Came fifth in the time trial on Thursday (4 August) – she told Manx Radio she hopes the number of women competing for the Isle of Man will continue to increase:
