DED considers way forward for work permits if Scotland goes independent

The department of economic development will be looking to our near neighbours to determine new rules on work permits should Scotland become an independent nation.

Currently, the vast majority of workers from the UK must apply for a work permit as a national of the European Economic Area to work on the Isle of Man.

Those not applying from the EEA apply through a separate Points Based System.

The referendum will take place on September 18, and a 'yes' vote will mean Scotland breaks away from the United Kingdom and have to apply to become a member of the European Union.
