Doctor admits having cannabis posted to him

Drugs worth £85 wrapped in teabags and mailed

A doctor at Noble’s Hospital has appeared in court to admit having cannabis sent to him through the post.

Dr Haroon Rizwan Hamid appeared before magistrates at Douglas Courthouse, and pleaded guilty to two charges.

He produced cannabis and attempted to possess the drug at his home address on 27 September.

Prosecution advocate Roger Kane told the hearing a package had been stopped on its way to Cronk Aash at the hospital.

Post Office staff called in police and the package to Hamid was opened.

Inside was around 15 grammes of the class B drug worth around £85, wrapped up in teabags.

Twenty-seven-year-old Hamid was arrested, but answered “no comment” to police questions when he was interviewed.

He was bailed in the sum of £250 while a social enquiry report is prepared, and will be sentenced on 23 May.
