Fire crews use 70,000 litres of water tackling wildfires near railway line

Firefighters called to Port Soderick twice in two days

Firefighters used around 70,000 litres of water over the last two days tackling two fires in the same area.

Crews from Douglas were called to the Port Soderick area on Monday and Tuesday to extinguish a blaze in a field by the steam railway line.

Hoses had to be run across the line and the trains stopped.

With temperatures due to get warmer throughout the rest of the week, and the ground being tinder dry, the fire and rescue service is asking people to be sensible.
